Gritty Globe is the brain child of a disgruntled college graduate who refused to believe that Real Life had to mean postponing traveling until she was retired.
I had to learn about travel the hard way – by arriving to a foreign country, realizing I was vastly underprepared, and spending a lot of time (and money) to correct my mistakes. I didn’t want this to happen to everyone, so I started this website to serve both as an educational tool and a form of entertainment. It’s intended for travelers in all stages, whether they’re taking the first step, a breath of fresh air along the way, or happily reflecting on travels past.
Where have I been?
I officially contracted the travel itch when I visited England in 2000. Fascinated by the gloomy weather, the castles and the ability to gamble as a minor, it fostered an intense desire to see more. The travel itch progressed into a terminal travel disease in 2006 when I studied abroad in Puebla, Mexico. Since then, I’ve lived in Guatemala, and traveled through Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica and El Salvador. In 2009, I couchsurfed and backpacked both the Middle East and Europe, hitting up Jordan, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Spain, France, the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Scotland and England.
